We should investigate the burned places. Sometimes in destruction something valuable can be found. It's not likely, but it's worth a try.

Yeah, I guess it's not a bad idea. Maybe it'll be like one of those puzzles, and there's a key here or something.

[He will go ahead and investigate the burned books though, this time taking care to only look at one book at a time and put it back before moving on to the next one. That way he can remember where they go!]

I still don't get what he was trying to do either. He said he wasn't trying to kill us, but what else would this have done?

Perhaps he was trying to get the raccoons to open a window in this floor? It'd be a way to escape. That said, there has to be less risky plans.

If we play by our captors' rules, we'd be spending a couple weeks at most in this place. I cannot speak for everyone, but personally I can afford to spend time here. My absence will be noted but I trust my deputy to take care of the school while I'm here.

Sure, I guess. I'd love to not have to fight monsters every week and worry about crazy-strong demons taking over the world or whatever. But that's now how things are. There's stuff only I can do. So if I don't do it, then who will?
